A political activist who publicly opposed Donald Trump’s Presidential candidacy in the 2024 General Election has relinquished a leadership role he had been appointed to for the upcoming Texas GOP State Convention.
Bradley Pierce, who serves as President of Abolish Abortion Texas, was appointed by Republican Party of Texas State Chairman Abraham George earlier this week to serve as Chairman of the Credentials Committee at the Party’s State Convention in June.
However, a source tells The Texas Voice that Pierce stepped down from his convention leadership role after The Texas Voice began asking questions about his public opposition to President Trump in the 2024 General Election. The Texas GOP’s convention website now shows the chairmanship of the Credentials Committee to be vacant.
“I’m an abolitionist, but I’m not one who thinks failure to support abolition inherently disqualifies a person from office. Instead, I think Trump is disqualified for lots of reasons. This is an important one, but not the only one. The primary issue is character,” wrote Pierce in a April 12, 2024, tweet.
On June 11, 2024, Pierce posted a tweet agreeing with a post from an individual who said he would not vote for Trump over the issue of abortion abolition. Pierce wrote, “Yep. In addition to opposing protections for preborn children, Trump has also promoted sodomy, which God abominates.”
In an August 2024 interview on the “Theology Applied” podcast, Pierce explained his opposition to Trump was based on biblical grounds, specifically Exodus 18.
“President Trump doesn’t even meet that standard, and the other standards of Exodus 18,” said Pierce. “I can’t vote for [Trump] because he doesn’t meet this minimum standard.”
In the interview, Pierce also described Trump as a “very, very pro-sodomite President” and said that Trump would invite “God’s judgment” on the United States.
“I think the actual inviting of God’s judgment, Trump is going to make the disease worse,” Pierce remarked.
Pierce continued his advocacy against Trump on the day of the 2024 General Election. In a lengthy post on X, Pierce once again cited “the judgment of God” in his opposition to Trump.
“Fellow Christians, Donald Trump cannot save America. He lacks the one thing necessary to do it.
The greatest threat to America is the judgment of God. Woke insanity, the deep state, invasion, and many other things are all clear indications that we are under His judgment now.
The solution to judgment is simple: repentance. Yet Trump has shown no evidence of repentance, and certainly no leadership on it. To the contrary, Trump has openly promoted three chief sins that lead to national judgment: child sacrifice, sexual perversion, and idolatry,” tweeted Pierce.
“I disagree with but respect my fellow Christians who are choosing to vote for Trump.”
Abolish Abortion Texas, the organization led by Pierce, has been active in Texas politics over the last several years and has advocated for laws that would subject women who get abortions to criminal penalties, including the death penalty.
Despite their purported stance against abortion, Pierce and Abolish Abortion Texas opposed landmark pro-life legislation that was passed by the Texas Legislature and signed into law. During the 2021 legislative session, Pierce and his organization opposed the Texas Heartbeat Act and the abortion “trigger bill” that banned abortion in Texas when Roe v. Wade was overturned.
The “abolition” movement has been criticized by many leaders in the pro-life community. In 2022, a coalition of more than 70 prominent pro-life leaders and organizations issued an open letter opposing any attempt by state legislatures to impose criminal penalties on women who have abortions. National Right to Life, Americans United for Life, and the Susan B. Anthony List were among the signatories to the letter.
“As national and state pro-life organizations, representing tens of millions of pro-life men, women, and children across the country, let us be clear: We state unequivocally that we do not support any measure seeking to criminalize or punish women and we stand firmly opposed to include such penalties in legislation,” read the letter.
Abolish Abortion Texas’ legislative initiatives have failed to gain traction in the legislature. In a January 2025 interview on WFAA-TV’s Inside Texas Politics, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick said he was opposed to any attempt to subject women who receive abortions to criminal prosecution and that those who advocate for such penalties “don’t speak for Republicans.”
When asked by the interviewer if he supported punishing women who get abortions, Patrick replied, “Of course not. Those were a few people somewhere, you know, that said that. And they don’t speak for Republicans. They don’t speak for Americans. You’re not going to punish women. That’s ridiculous. Ridiculous.”
