Congressman Jim Jordan, the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and one of President Trump’s leading allies on Capitol Hill, was in Texas over the weekend to headline two events in support of Congressional candidate Alex Mealer.

The events took place in the cities of Cleveland and Dayton in Liberty County. Congressman Brian Babin, who currently represents Liberty County, also spoke at the events in support of Mealer. In addition to Liberty County, the newly redrawn Congressional District 9 includes a portion of eastern Harris County.

Mealer, who is endorsed by President Trump, faces State Representative Briscoe Cain in the May 26 Republican Runoff.

Jordan stressed the importance of electing Republicans to Congress, highlighting his personal experiences visiting the Soviet Union and Cuba.

“When you have a system that doesn’t recognize freedom, the rule of law, private property – doesn’t have a Constitution, a of Bill of Rights like we have in this great country – the greatest country ever – bad things happen. So thank the good Lord we all live here. And here’s why it’s important you have people like Brian Babin and Alex Mealer in the United States Congress – because the left is trying to change it all,” Jordan told attendees in Cleveland.

“The left is crazy. No other way to say it,” added Jordan.

Both Jordan and Babin praised Mealer, emphasizing her experience as a West Point graduate and a bomb squad officer in the Army.

“If I can’t represent Liberty County and this region here, I know there’s a young lady that can do just as good – if not better – than me. And her name is Alex Mealer,” said Babin.

Jordan, who was the first Chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, said he was supporting Mealer because of her strong conservative values.

“I want the most conservative Republican who’s not crazy and who understands the fact that she’s there or he is there to fight for the folks back home. And Alex is that kind of individual. That’s why we endorsed early. That’s why Brian [Babin] did, because we know a good person when we see one,” remarked Jordan.

In her remarks to attendees, Mealer said he had earned the support of President Trump, Congressmen Babin and Jordan, local leaders in the district, law enforcement associations, and the National Border Patrol Council because of her “work ethic, the skill set, and the consistent conservative record” she possesses.

“What I want to do with this office is use it to be the partner that President Trump trusts to enact his America-First agenda, so we deliver these results for your families. And what America-First means to me first is American jobs. That’s cutting taxes, cutting regulations, investing in our infrastructure. But it also means protecting critical American jobs,” said Mealer.

Other issues discussed by Mealer during her remarks include her support for funding law enforcement – including ICE and Border Patrol –  election integrity – including the passage of the SAVE America Act –  defending parental rights, protecting children from gender transition, and opposing boys competing in girls’ sports.
