Abbott Proposes Statewide Prosecutor to Mitigate Leftist DAs

Four of Texas’ Five Largest Counties are Represented by Soros-Funded District Attorneys

  • Governor Abbott has called for the creation of a statewide prosecutor to mitigate the impact of leftist District Attorneys who refuse to prosecute certain crimes
  • Four of Texas’ five largest counties are represented by a District Attorney who received financial backing from George Soros
  • Texas voters have overwhelmingly supported public safety measures, with 61.14% of voters supporting Proposition 3 last month

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has voiced his support for creating a new prosecutorial office with statewide jurisdiction to address the failure of some Texas District Attorneys to prosecute dangerous criminals.

“I am calling for legislation that creates a Chief State Prosecutor to actually prosecute criminals like this that DAs in places like Austin refuse to prosecute. Progressive DAs are literally leading to the murder of Texans. Those DAs must be held accountable and prosecutorial power must be shifted to actual prosecutors,” said Abbott in a tweet on Monday.

Abbott’s tweet was in response to a post by the @AustinJustice account regarding a career criminal who allegedly yelled, “I’m going to go inside and kill, I’m gonna find a way to get in,” as he banged on the doors of an elementary school.

Travis County District Attorney Jose Garza is just one of several leftist District Attorneys across Texas whose campaigns for office were boosted by billionaire megadonor George Soros, who is known for his efforts to transform the criminal justice system in a way that critics have characterized as protecting criminals.

Four of the five largest counties in Texas are represented by a Soros-funded District Attorney. In addition to Garza, Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare, Dallas County District Attorney John Creuzot, and Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzalez have all received financial backing from Soros.

Public safety has been a priority issue for Abbott. During the legislative session earlier this year, Abbott championed bail reform measures that expanded the ability of judges to deny bail to defendants accused of violent offenses, as well as legislation that bans local governments from using public funds to support nonprofit organizations that bail defendants out of jail.

Texas voters have overwhelmingly supported the bail reform measures championed by Abbott and other Republican leaders. Proposition 3, the State Constitutional Amendment concerning the denial of bail to certain defendants accused of violent offenses, passed with 61.14% of the vote last month.
