Shining a Light on Liberals: The Texas Voice 2025 Year in Review

Looking Back at Some of Our Top Stories from This Year

Here at The Texas Voice, we pride ourselves on being one of the few outlets that unapologetically shines a light on the wrongdoing and extremism of the political left. We publish stories that other media outlets – including some allegedly “conservative” organizations – won’t touch.

As 2025 comes to a close, we wanted to take a look back at some of our top stories from the past year, where we exposed the activities of leftists in Texas. We appreciate your readership and engagement, and look forward to continuing our work in 2026.

The Texas Voice depends on the generous support of our readers. If you would like to make a tax-deductible contribution to support our work, you can do so here

And now, a look back at some of our top stories of 2025:

These Liberal Lawyers Spent Big to “Stop MAGA Republicans.” Now They’re Trying to Influence Republican Primary Elections.

In July, we published an article about Houston-based personal injury trial lawyers Kurt Arnold and Jason Itkin and their political spending. Their law firm, Arnold & Itkin, donated $300,000 to the First Tuesday PAC for the 2024 General Election. With the support of other donors, including George Soros, First Tuesday ran ads urging voters to “Stop MAGA Republicans” and “Vote for Every Democrat.”

For the 2026 election cycle, Arnold and Itkin have turned their eyes towards influencing Republican Primary elections. In April, Arnold and Itkin formed the Texans for Truth and Liberty PAC and seeded it with a $10 million donation from their law firm.

The Texas Voice will continue to follow the political activities of Arnold, Itkin, Texans for Truth and Liberty, and other donors as the 2026 election cycle unfolds.

Tejano Musician Turned Congressional Hopeful Defiled Trump’s Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Once Democrat strongholds, Republicans have made tremendous inroads in South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley. One of the most prominent Republican officeholders in that region is Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz, who represents a district based in Hidalgo County.

National Democrats, seeking to regain lost ground in South Texas, have made De La Cruz a top target. They successfully recruited Bobby Pulido, a well-known Tejano music artist, to challenge De La Cruz.

While President Trump has proven to be the most popular Republican in South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley, Pulido once videotaped himself urinating on President Trump’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

“Bobby Pulido exposed his genitals and urinated on a tribute to President Trump in one of the busiest streets in America, where thousands of women and children pass by at all hours — then tried to hide it. If he’s unfit to perform at a quinceañera, he has no business in Congress,” tweeted De La Cruz.

Harris County Attorney Christian Menefee Hopes to Use Lawfare Against the Trump Administration to Propel Himself into Congress

Democrat Harris County Attorney Christian Menefee desperately wants to be a Congressman, and he has not been shy about using the taxpayer-funded office he holds to build up his anti-Trump bona fides.

In September, we wrote about how Menefee signed on to a brief in a lawsuit filed by California Governor Gavin Newsom challenging an order by President Trump to send National Guard troops and the U.S. Marines to Los Angeles. Earlier this month, we published an article about Menefee weighing in on a lawsuit involving gun rights.

Menefee faces former Houston City Councilwoman Amanda Edwards in a January 31 runoff to fill the vacancy in Congressional District 18 left by the passing of former Congressman Sylvester Turner. Menefee and Edwards will face off against incumbent Democrat Congressman Al Green, who chose to run in Congressional District 18 after his current district was redrawn to favor a Republican, in the March Democratic Primary.

George Soros Continues to Spend Big in Texas While His PAC Flaunts Campaign Finance Disclosure Laws

New York leftist megadonor George Soros has been a key figure in funding efforts to elect Democrats in Texas over the last several years. One of the main vehicles for his political spending in Texas is the Texas Majority PAC, which has received at least $7.45 million directly from Soros and more than $2.8 million from groups backed by him since its formation.

In November, we reported that a complaint had been filed with the Texas Ethics Commission alleging that the Texas Majority PAC failed to file required campaign finance reports in connection with the Special Election in State Senate District 9.

The complaint remains pending with the Texas Ethics Commission, and The Texas Voice will report on any further developments.

Harris County Taxpayers Spent $468k to Subsidize “Gay Softball World Series”

The Texas Voice was the first media outlet to report on a proposal by Democrat Harris County Commissioner Adrian Garcia to spend $468,610 in taxpayer dollars, under the guise of economic development, to subsidize the 2025 Gay Softball World Series event that was held in the Houston area in September. The expenditure, approved by the Harris County Commissioners Court, eventually received international media attention, including coverage by the Daily Mail

Republican County Commissioner Tom Ramsey was the lone dissenting vote. Before the vote, Ramsey expressed his frustration with his colleagues’ support for spending tax dollars on items unrelated to the core functions of County government.

“It should come as no shock that if you look at any Commissioners Court agenda from the past several years, you will find requests to spend money on items that are not core services (safety, infrastructure, flood control). This is on the agenda for our next meeting,” said Ramsey, referencing Garcia’s proposal to spend $468,610 in taxpayer dollars to subsidize the event.

“This is the reason we’re in a budget deficit. Often – very often – I am the only vote against this discretionary spending. My record is clear. The math is simple – more stuff, more taxes. More taxes, less for you and your family.”
