Traveling in a bus emblazoned with the slogan “One Party, One Mission,” Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows has been traveling across the state in support of Republican candidates for the Texas House.
The Speaker’s bus tour, which spans more than 2,000 miles across Texas and includes stops in more than two dozen districts, kicked off last week in his hometown of Lubbock. After several stops in North Texas, Burrows headed down to the Houston area over the weekend before heading to South Texas. The tour is scheduled to wrap up in Central Texas on Friday.
“Texas House Republicans have been on the front lines fighting for the future of our great state, standing up for our values and advancing the conservative policies that make Texas stronger,” said Speaker Burrows in a statement last week. “This election cycle, we have our work cut out for us. National Democrats and their megadonors are pouring resources into local races, hoping to flip the Texas House and impose their own agenda on our state. That’s why I’m hitting the road to stand with members in their districts, take our message directly to voters and make the case for continued Republican leadership that puts freedom, family and opportunity first.”
At campaign stops on the tour with his Republican colleagues and prospective colleagues, Burrows highlighted Republican lawmakers’ successes and warned that Democrats were trying to dismantle capitalism and the oil and gas industry.
Speaking in State Representative Lacey Hull’s district in the Houston area on Saturday, Burrows complimented Hull for spearheading “make Texas healthy again” initiatives, her work on legislation ensuring human traffickers are prosecuted and incarcerated, and her support for measures to protect children online.
Hull thanked Burrows “for being here and leading this charge” with helping turn out Republican voters with his bus tour.
Beyond his campaign appearances, Burrows’ political operation has spent heavily to protect the Republican majority in the Texas House. The Texas Conservative Majority PAC, which is associated with Burrows, has spent more than $7.8 million since July to support Republican Texas House members and candidates. Over the past month, the PAC has spent more than $3.6 million to support 33 Republicans running in districts Democrats have targeted.
Republican organizations and activists have promoted and applauded Burrows’ work mobilizing Republican voters. In social media posts, the Republican Party of Texas has advertised his bus tour and highlighted a stop in Dallas County last week. Other groups, including the Dallas County Republican Party and the Collin County Young Republicans, have also thanked the Speaker for his efforts this election.
