As early voting begins across Texas, President Donald J. Trump endorsed four more Republican candidates for Congress on Monday night. In posts on Truth Social, Trump announced his endorsements of Jessica Steinmann for Congressional District 8, Alex Mealer for Congressional District 9, Carlos De La Cruz for Congressional District 35, and Jon Bonck for Congressional District 38.
Steinmann, the Executive General Counsel of the America First Policy Institute, served in the Trump administration during President Trump’s first term.
President Trump said of Steinmann, “As a former appointee in my First Term, and now, as a Highly Respected Attorney, Jessica continues to prove that she has the Wisdom and Courage necessary to uphold our Constitution, and ensure LAW AND ORDER.”
One of Steinmann’s opponents – businessman Brett Jensen – announced he was suspending his campaign after Trump endorsed Steinmann. Jensen had loaned his campaign $1.5 million as of the end of December. Congressional District 8 encompasses all of Waller County and portions of Harris, Montgomery, and Walker counties.
Army Veteran and business owner Alex Mealer got the nod from Trump in her bid for Congressional District 9, which covers Liberty County and a portion of eastern Harris County.
“A West Point Graduate, and Combat Decorated Army Bomb Squad Officer, Alex knows the Wisdom and Courage required to Defend our Country, Support our Military/Veterans, and Ensure PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH. A Graduate of Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School, Alex is also a successful Business Executive who knows the America First Policies necessary to Create GREAT Jobs, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Unleash Innovation, Promote MADE IN THE U.S.A., and Ensure American Energy DOMINANCE. In Congress, she will work hard to Keep our Border SECURE, Stop Migrant Crime, Ensure LAW AND ORDER, Safeguard our Elections, and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment,” said President Trump.
Recently released polls from the Club for Growth and the University of Houston’s Hobby School both showed Mealer leading the field of nine Republicans, which also includes State Representative Briscoe Cain, businessman Dan Mims, and former Congressman Steve Stockman.
For the San Antonio-area Congressional District 35, President Trump announced his support for Carlos De La Cruz. A businessman and Air Force Veteran, Carlos De La Cruz is the brother of South Texas Republican Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz.
In his Truth Social post endorsing Carlos De La Cruz, President Trump wrote, “A Brave, 20 Year Air Force Veteran, and now, as a successful Businessman, Carlos has a Proven Record of Success — He is a WINNER!”
In the race to succeed Wesley Hunt in Harris County’s Congressional District 38, Trump endorsed mortgage broker Jon Bonck. Senator Ted Cruz had previously endorsed Bonck and has featured prominently in Bonck’s advertising.
“Jon Bonck is an incredible Candidate running to represent the fantastic people of Texas’ 38th Congressional District. He is supported by many MAGA Patriots, including Senator Ted Cruz, Congressmen “Doc” Ronny Jackson, Brandon Gill, Jim Jordan, and Tim Burchett, among others,” noted President Trump.
Trump also reiterated his support for numerous other Texas candidates he had previously endorsed, including Governor Greg Abbott, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, and Speaker Dustin Burrows. Every incumbent Republican Texas state legislator who is seeking re-election to their current position has also been endorsed by President Trump.
“I appreciate President Trump reminding everyone of his strong endorsement. He is truly one of the greatest leaders in our country’s history! This session, the Texas legislature advanced historic conservative priorities ensuring Texas remains a leader in our country and the free world; and, I look forward to continuing to work with our President to secure further wins for Texas families, communities, and job creators,” tweeted Burrows.
