The leaders of six of the most prominent law enforcement associations in Texas have announced their support for Joan Huffman in her bid for Attorney General. Huffman, a State Senator, faces Congressman Chip Roy, State Senator Mayes Middleton, and attorney Aaron Reitz in the Republican Primary.

Texas Municipal Police Association President Zach Hicks, Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas (CLEAT) President Scott Leeton, Houston Police Officers Union President Doug Griffith, Department of Public Safety Officers Association President T.J. Phillips, Harris County Deputies Organization President Jose Lopez, and Dallas Police Association President Sean Pease cited Huffman’s leadership on public safety issues in a letter announcing their endorsement. The six organizations represent nearly 100,000 law enforcement officers across Texas.

“During her Senate tenure, Senator Huffman has chaired the powerful Senate Finance Committee, as well as the State Affairs, Redistricting, and Jurisprudence committees. She also served as Vice-Chair of the Criminal Justice Committee, where she consistently passed strong pro-victim and pro-law enforcement legislation. Beyond her unmatched resume, Joan Huffman has earned widespread respect as one of the most effective and influential senators in Texas through her character, temperament, steady leadership, and ability to get results,” read the endorsement letter.

The law enforcement leaders also cited Huffman’s professional background and experience in their endorsement. Before serving in the Texas Senate, Huffman worked as a prosecutor and was later elected as a felony court judge in Harris County.

During the most recent legislative session, Huffman was the author of several major public safety bills, including legislation banning local governments from funding organizations that bail criminal defendants out of jail and a State Constitutional Amendment allowing for judges to deny bail to dangerous criminals.

Huffman has emphasized her leadership on public safety issues during her campaign for Attorney General.

“I authored and championed the strongest bail reform package in Texas history in the Texas Legislature. I worked hand-in-hand with victims groups and law enforcement to pass these critical laws and finally slam shut the revolving door that let dangerous criminals walk free and threaten our communities. These bills are already saving lives by keeping violent repeat offenders behind bars where they belong, preventing tragedies, and helping to ensure that justice is delivered.

As Attorney General, I’ll apply that same proven toughness to fight crime statewide—locking up dangerous criminals, dismantling soft-on-crime policies, and supporting our law enforcement and prosecutors so that they can get the job done. This is the decisive action Texans demand—and I’ll never stop leading this fight,” wrote Huffman in a recent social media post

Huffman has represented State Senate District 17 since 2008 and serves as Chair of the Senate Finance Committee.
