The political network of prominent donor Tim Dunn has thrown its support behind a Republican candidate for State Representative who sided with George Soros’ advocacy network against a State Constitutional Amendment last year that makes it easier for judges to deny bail to dangerous criminals, and whose husband has a history of posting anti-Israel conspiracies online.
Kristen Plaisance, who is challenging incumbent Republican State Representative Cecil Bell, Jr., in the Republican Primary in House District 3 in Montgomery County, opposed Proposition 3 last year in a voter guide she published in advance of the November State Constitutional Amendment election.
Plaisance’s position against Proposition 3 put her in direct conflict with Governor Greg Abbott, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, every Republican state lawmaker, and a wide variety of law enforcement and public safety organizations – all of whom supported the measure.
“Murderers belong behind bars. Not set free to kill again like what happened in Houston and other places. Proposition 3 on the ballot this November needs your vote to ensure Texas keeps the most dangerous criminals behind bars. It requires a constitutional amendment because bail law is set out in the constitution,” wrote Governor Abbott about his support for the Proposition.
Proposition 3 was overwhelmingly approved by Texas voters, with 61.14% voting in favor of the Amendment.
State Senator Joan Huffman, who authored the enabling legislation for Proposition 3, said, “The strong support throughout Texas for Proposition 3 sends a clear message that Texans value and demand law and order. Texans have had enough of judges who do not prioritize the safety of victims and the community. It has taken seven years of hard work to get this important constitutional amendment to the voters, and I am deeply grateful to those who fought alongside me to get this done. It wouldn’t have happened without the courage of the victims and their families, law enforcement, and good prosecutors throughout the state of Texas. Their courage and commitment to improving public safety made this historic victory possible. I thank the people of Texas for their vote. There is no doubt the passage of this constitutional amendment will make Texas a safer place.”
Joining Plaisance in opposing this Amendment to the Texas Constitution were several left-wing advocacy organizations funded by George Soros. These groups include the Texas Civil Rights Project, the American Civil Liberties Union, and the Vera Institute of Justice, all of which opposed SJR 5 – the enabling legislation for Proposition 3.
Known officially as Oficina Legal del Pueblo Unido, Inc., the Texas Civil Rights Project received a $1.2 million grant from Soros’ Foundation to Promote Open Society in 2023. According to a grant database maintained by the Open Society Foundations, the grant has a three-year term.
Vera Action, Inc., which is affiliated with the Vera Institute of Justice, received $1.5 million grants from Soros’ Open Society Action Fund in 2023 and 2024, and a $750,000 grant in 2022. The Vera Institute of Justice has also received financial support from Soros’ foundations.
The American Civil Liberties Union has also received significant funding from Soros’ foundations. It received a $15 million grant with a three-year term from Soros’ Open Society Policy Center in 2022, in addition to numerous other grants awarded to other American Civil Liberties Union entities by Soros’ foundations.
In her voter guide opposing Proposition 3, Plaisance echoed talking points similar to those of the leftist social justice organizations that also opposed the measure.
“Trials often face repeated delays, creating the potential for years of confinement without due process. “Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” Benjamin Franklin. I recommend we vote NO,” wrote Plaisance.
Under Proposition 3, which aimed to keep dangerous repeat offenders from reoffending while awaiting trial, judges are now able to deny bail to defendants facing charges for violent offenses, human trafficking, and first-degree felony sexual offenses when it is determined that the denial of bail is necessary to ensure the defendant’s appearance in court or to ensure the safety of the public.
Kristen Plaisance is not the only member of her household to harbor views that many Republican voters may find objectionable. Her husband, Robbie Plaisance, has a long history of positing conspiracy theories involving Israel and the Mossad on social media.
In a September 8, 2025, tweet, Robbie Plaisance accused conservative activist Scott Pressler of being a Mossad agent.
“This you Scott!!??? Mossad agent working against America for the paper dollah!! Traitor,” tweeted Robbie Plaisance.

On July 28, 2025, in response to a tweet from Laura Loomer, Robbie Plaisance wrote, “Let me Educate you. Most of this free Palestine crap is created by Mossad/CIA. Hamas created by Israel/Mossad.”

In 2024, on the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Robbie Plaisance blamed the attacks on “CIA and Mossad Zionist[s].”

“Pray for America asswipe!!!! Mr Israel dual citizenship,” wrote Robbie Plaisance on October 1, 2024 in response to a “Pray for Israel” tweet from U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson.

Robbie Plaisance has also falsely claimed that “Israel is a US Territory”, “80% of Congress has dual citizenship”, “ISIS stands for Israeli Secret Intelligence Services!”, and that “Israel is US territory used by the Deepstate to control Middle East!”

Robbie Plaisance has been a vocal promoter of his wife’s campaign for State Representative on social media, while Kristen Plaisance has called her husband one of “my favorite fearless Texas fighters.”
The political network of Midland oilman Tim Dunn is strongly backing Kristen Plaisance’s bid for the Texas House. Organizations within Dunn’s network, including Texans for Fiscal Responsibility, Texans for Strong Borders, and the True Texas Project, have all endorsed Plaisance. Texans United for a Conservative Majority, a PAC funded mainly by Dunn, made a $25,000 in-kind contribution to her campaign on January 9, 2026, in the form of paid canvassing.
That contribution accounted for more than 81% of the total contributions received by Plaisance during the most recent campaign finance reporting period.
Dunn’s political apparatus, which is boosting Plaisance, has seen its own share of controversies involving antisemitism.
Chris Russo, the President of Texans for Strong Borders, has been reported to be a supporter and associate of antisemitic social media personality Nick Fuentes. In 2023, Russo was seen driving Fuentes to a meeting at the offices of a political consulting firm that is a part of Dunn’s political operation.
The True Texas Project has also come under scrutiny for its ties to antisemitism. On its X account, True Texas Project has promoted the antisemitic trope that members of Congress are controlled by “AIPAC Handlers.” In 2024, several scheduled speakers at a True Texas Project conference withdrew due to anti-Israel content promoted at the event.
Fred McCarty, a leader of the True Texas Project, has made social media posts using vulgar terms to describe Israel. In a recent Facebook post about the murder of Charlie Kirk, Fred McCarty said that he didn’t think Israel was involved because “Israel already controls the levers of American government. They did not need Kirk dead to achieve their goals.”
Republican State Representative Cecil Bell, Jr., whom Plaisance is challenging, has been endorsed for re-election by President Donald J. Trump, Governor Greg Abbott, and Senator Ted Cruz. Bell has also earned the endorsement of law enforcement and public safety leaders, including Montgomery County Sheriff Wesley Doolittle, the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas (CLEAT) PAC, and the Department of Public Safety Officers Association.
