The 89th Session of the Texas Legislature came to an end on Monday, with Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, Speaker Dustin Burrows, and the Republican Party of Texas all touting numerous conservative victories that were accomplished during the 140-day session.

Describing the just-concluded legislative session as the “Senate’s most conservative and successful legislative session,” Lt. Governor Dan Patrick pointed to the passage of bills on a myriad of issues, including school choice, increasing the homestead exemption, border security, and protecting Texas from hostile foreign threats among the many issues where lawmakers delivered victories for Texans.

“Today, I adjourned the Texas Senate Sine Die for the 89th Regular Legislative Session. This session, the Texas Senate achieved victory after victory for Texans, passing many key bills that died in the Texas House during the 88th legislature,” said Patrick in a statement highlighting the Senate’s work.

Patrick added, “This session was a team effort. I want to thank all 31 senators and staff for their hard work and perseverance. None of these major victories would be possible without their dedication over the interim and session. I also want to thank Gov. Abbott and Speaker Burrows for their partnership in delivering major victories for Texans all session. The Senate and I look forward to delivering for Texans during the 90th Legislative Session in 2027.”

Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows praised the work of the Texas House, highlighting accomplishments that include teacher pay raises, tax relief, school choice, investments in critical infrastructure and electric grid reliability, medical freedom, and regulatory reform.

“From day one, the Texas House set bold priorities to meet the critical needs of our state—lawmakers met the moment and delivered,” said Speaker Burrows.

“We adjourn today having transformed public education for students, parents, and teachers through record investments and greater educational options. We reduced government overreach to empower parents and entrepreneurs with greater freedoms to raise a family or run a business, cut taxes and regulations to put more money in the pockets of taxpayers, and passed common sense laws that will protect Texas’ communities, infrastructure, and values from external threats.”

Meanwhile, the Republican Party of Texas highlighted the passage of 37 bills that advance the Party’s legislative priorities.

In an e-mail sent to many conservative activists, the Republican Party of Texas wrote, “With 37 Legislative Priority bills successfully passing both chambers, this session represents a substantial achievement for our shared goals and priorities.”

“These 37 bills represent real progress on the issues that matter to our communities, and that progress happened because of your commitment and hard work.”

The 37 priority bills singled out by the Republican Party of Texas fall under the Party’s legislative priorities, including “Stop Sexualizing Texas Kids,” “End Federal Overreach,” “Texas is Not For Sale,” “Secure Elections,” “Secure the Electric Grid,” and “Border Enforcement.”

Over the coming weeks, The Texas Voice will be taking an in-depth look at the major policy issues addressed during the 89th Legislative Session.
