Islamic School Lawyer Among Dem Donors to Pro-Paxton PAC

Democratic Megadonors Meddling in Republican Runoff

A lawyer who currently represents the operators of Islamic schools in a lawsuit against the Texas Comptroller is among the Democrat megadonors – including donors to James Talarico’s Senate campaign – who have helped bankroll a SuperPAC backing Ken Paxton’s Republican Primary bid for the United States Senate.

The donations from these Democrat donors to the Lone Star Liberty PAC have raised concerns among some Republicans that Democrats are meddling in the Republican Primary to boost Paxton, given his perceived weakness against James Talarico in the General Election.

The involvement of these Democrat megadonors in efforts to support Paxton has raised concerns among some Republicans that they are boosting Paxton because they view him as a weak opponent against James Talarico in the General Election.

“Radical leftists aren’t shoveling money to Paxton because they want him to win. Besides scandals and corruption, Paxton has shown political weakness by repeatedly getting the lowest share of the statewide Republican ticket’s vote,” said longtime Republican activist Paul Simpson, who served as Chairman of the Harris County Republican Party from 2014 until 2020.

“Meanwhile, John Cornyn is an effective Senator who has regularly led the GOP field in the general election. Any wonder Democrats want Paxton to win the primary runoff?”

While the Republican Party of Texas has supported closing Republican Primaries, purportedly to stop Democratic interference, the Party and its current leaders have been silent about Democrat megadonors using their wealth to influence Republican races.

Notable Democrat donors to the Pro-Paxton Lone Star Liberty PAC include the following:

Omar Khawaja

Houston attorney Omar Khawaja donated $7,500 to Lone Star Liberty on March 31, 2026. Khawaja currently represents two Islamic school operators and two parents in an ongoing lawsuit against Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock and his office. The lawsuit seeks to compel the Comptroller to accept Islamic schools into the Texas Education Freedom Accounts Program, the State’s new school-choice program administered by the Comptroller’s office.

While Paxton’s office initially represented Hancock and his office in the lawsuit, they withdrew after Hancock publicly accused Paxton and his office of mishandling the case. Khawaja’s donation to Lone Star Liberty came just days after the Attorney General’s office sought to withdraw from the case.

Khawaja has been a major donor to some of the most radical Democrats in Congress, including members of “The Squad” such as Michigan Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, former Missouri Congresswoman Cori Bush, and former New York Congressman Jamaal Bowman.

Disgraced California Congressman Eric Swalwell received $1,000 from Khawaja last year. Khawaja has also donated to the Muslims United PAC, Congresswoman Maxine Waters, the Kamala Harris Victory Fund, and numerous other Democrats.

Muhammad Aziz

The Texas Voice has written extensively about massive spending by Houston attorney Muhammad Aziz and his law firm, Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Agosto, Aziz & Stogner, to influence Republican Primary elections this year. Both Aziz and his firm have extensive histories of massive spending to help Democrats.

Aziz has been a donor to Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar and the Harris County Democratic Party, while his firm has been one of the largest donors to the First Tuesday PAC – a group that also received funding from George Soros that ran advertisements urging voters to “Stop MAGA Republicans” and “Vote for Every Democrat” in the 2024 election

Aziz’s firm also boasts about its work representing illegal aliens in personal injury lawsuits.

In addition to a $93,000 donation to Lone Star Liberty earlier this year, Aziz and his wife each donated $13,500 to Paxton’s Joint Fundraising Committee in March.

In an April 14 Facebook post, Montgomery County trial lawyer Art Aguilar indicated that Aziz was also involved in a fundraising event for Paxton’s Senate campaign. Aguilar’s post includes several pictures of the event, including one of Aziz with Paxton.

Daly & Black

The Houston law firm of Daly & Black donated $25,000 to Lone Star Liberty on March 31, 2026. The firm has been a consistent donor to the First Tuesday PAC, including a $25,000 donation in 2024.

Mike Lyons

Dallas attorney Mike Lyons donated $15,000 to Lone Star Liberty on March 9, 2026. He is also a major donor to Democrat James Talarico’s Senate campaign, having donated the legal maximum to it last year. Lyons is the Treasurer of the Justice for Texas Victims PAC, which has been a vehicle Democrats have used to influence Republican Primary elections for state legislative seats. Muhammad Aziz is the largest donor to Justice for Texas Victims, having contributed $300,000.

Lyons donated $25,000 to the Kamala Harris Victory Fund in 2024, as well as large donations to Colin Allred’s Senate campaign and other Democrats.

Carlos Zaffirini

The son of Democrat State Senator Judith Zaffirini, attorney and healthcare businessman Carlos Zaffirini donated $25,000 to Lone Star Liberty on March 17, 2026. In 2024, Zaffirini donated $100,000 to VoteVets, a prominent Democratic Super PAC that supported Kamala Harris’ Presidential campaign. Zaffirini has also been a major donor to far-left Austin-area Congressman Greg Casar, as well as Colin Allred’s Senate campaign against Ted Cruz.

Simon Greenstone Panatier

The Dallas law firm of Simon Greenstone Panatier has donated $30,000 to Lone Star Liberty. The firm and its partners both have an extensive history of donating to Democrats. David Greenstone, the firm’s Managing Shareholder, has also been a major donor to James Talarico’s Senate campaign. Greenstone donated $3,500 to Talarico on September 9, 2025, and an additional $3,500 on March 4, 2026.

During the 2024 election cycle, Greenstone donated to Colin Allred’s Senate campaign, the Democratic National Committee, the Kamala Harris Victory Committee, and the Texas Democratic Party.
