Middleton Launches Campaign for Attorney General

State Senator Mayes Middleton announced his candidacy for Attorney General on Tuesday, becoming the Republican in the race to succeed Ken Paxton. Austin attorney John Bash, who formerly served as the United States Attorney for the Western District of Texas, is also running.

Middleton has represented Senate District 11 in the Texas Senate since 2023 and served in the Texas House from 2019-2023.

“I am running for Texas Attorney General to continue the fight for our shared conservative values that keep the Texas Miracle alive. As Attorney General, I will join President Trump in his efforts to return America and Texas to common sense and to fight to secure the border, ensure law and order, and be tough on crime. So goes Texas, so goes America. There isn’t another Texas to move to, and I will work to ensure Texas is the safest state to live and raise a family,” said Middleton.

“The true test of a conservative leader is that you do the right thing when no one is looking. I do not give in. I do not relent. Even in the toughest of times, when others throw in the towel, I remain a resolute conservative. My voting record and my reputation in the Capitol demonstrate that.”

Middleton, who has been a major donor to Republicans, has committed $10 million of his own money to the race. Prominent figures within the donor community have also announced their support for Middleton.

Houston businessman Emerson Kirksey Hankamer released a letter on Thursday along with 31 others endorsing Middleton for Texas Attorney General. Joe Popolo, Dr. Jim Leininger, J.P. Bryan, and Woody Hunt were among the major donors who signed the letter.

Big Names Bankrolling Crockett

Despite being at the center of several controversies, including referring to Texas Governor Greg Abbott as “Governor Hot Wheels” and using violent rhetoric about political opponents, including Senator Ted Cruz, Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett posted big fundraising numbers for the year’s first quarter.

Crockett’s biggest donors this quarter included political action committees of several well-known corporations and some of the most active trade associations in Washington, D.C.

Highlights from Crockett’s donor list include:

  • The American Association for Justice PAC, a national trade association for personal injury trial lawyers – $2,500
  • The National Association of Realtors PAC – $2,000
  • Retail giant Target’s PAC – $1,000
