  • In August 2020, the Chief Diversity Officer of St. John’s School worked to adopt “antiracist and cultural relevancy” in the school’s Middle School curriculum

In an ad sent to Texas voters on Saturday, Republican Congressman and United States Senate candidate Wesley Hunt was accused of supporting leftist diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives while a board member of a private school in Houston.

“As a member of the board of trustees for a prestigious private school, WOKE WESLEY HUNT was part of indoctrinating TX students with radical leftist views. They made DEl “foundational” to the curriculum, pushed anti-police policies & recommended books that “explored gender ideology,” read a text message sent to Texas voters by Texans for a Conservative Majority. The text message also included an image that said, “Woke Wesley Hunt Pushing DEI On Texas Kids.”

The ad referenced an article published last week by the Daily Caller, which highlighted DEI policies and initiatives adopted by the St. John’s School in Houston during Hunt’s tenure as a member of the school’s Board of Trustees.

As reported by the Daily Caller, Hunt served as a member of the board of St. John’s School from 2018 until 2021 and served on the board’s “Task Force on Community and Inclusion.”

According to the St. John’s School website, in August 2020, the Chief Diversity Officer of St. John’s School “met with the Middle School academic team to discuss redesigns of the Middle School the Civics and English curriculum for antiracist and cultural relevancy with diverse text and literature.”

The school’s website also featured a “Strategic Plan for Community and Inclusion” replete with leftist themes.

Under the school’s goal to “Support Inclusive and Innovative Teaching and Learning”, St. John’s School stated it will “Continue to develop and embed intellectual inquiry that will ensure that diversity, equity and inclusion are foundational aspects of our educational program.”

St. John School’s DEI initiatives also extended to the LGBT community. In a Spring 2020 “Community and Inclusion” update published by the school, it boasted of creating a new “affinity group” for LGBT faculty called GLOW.
