President Donald Trump endorsed Governor Greg Abbott in a Truth Social post on Tuesday, as Abbott embarks on a re-election campaign for a fourth term as Governor.

“Greg Abbott is the strong and highly respected Governor of Texas, a State I love and WON BIG three times, including with 6.4 Million Votes in 2024 (The most Votes in History, BY FAR)!

Thanks to Greg’s bold and effective Leadership, the wonderful people of Texas will have the opportunity to elect 5 new MAGA Republicans in the 2026 Midterm Elections with the passage of their new, fair, and much improved, Congressional Map — A BIG WIN for Republicans in The Lone Star State, and across the Country! As Governor, Greg is also fighting tirelessly to Champion Texas Values, Grow the Economy, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Support our Amazing Farmers and Ranchers, Advance MADE IN THE U.S.A., Unleash American Energy Dominance, Promote School Choice, Keep our now very Secure Border, SECURE, Stop Migrant Crime, Murderers, and other Criminals from illegally entering our Country, Ensure LAW AND ORDER, Protect our Brave Military, Veterans, and Law Enforcement, and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment.

Greg Abbott has my Complete and Total Endorsement for Re-Election. He is an exceptional Governor and man — HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!” wrote President Trump.

Abbott formally kicked off his re-election campaign at an event in Houston on Sunday, where he also unveiled a package of proposals aimed at reforming property taxes.

“Let me be very clear about something – the state of Texas does not impose a property tax. It’s only local governments that impose property taxes in Texas. Those local property taxes are being hiked by your local governments incessantly. It’s time that we drive a stake through the heart of the ability of local property tax hikes in the future,” remarked Abbott at his campaign kickoff

“We are going to turn the tables on local taxing authorities and put the power with the people, and put out of control property taxes finished in the state of Texas.”

Among the property tax reforms proposed by Abbott are spending caps for local taxing entities, a two-thirds voter approval threshold for property tax hikes, and a 3% appraisal cap for residential homesteads.

Several Democrats, including State Representative Gina Hinojosa, former Congressman Chris Bell, and businessman Andrew White, have announced their intention to seek the Democratic nomination for Governor.

Abbott begins his campaign in a strong financial position, with his campaign committee sitting on a war chest of over $86 million per campaign finance records.
