- In a post on Truth Social, President Trump praised Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows and called on lawmakers to pass a redistricting proposal that could see Republicans pick up five Congressional seats “as is”
- Trump’s post came as some lawmakers and organizations made unfounded claims that Republicans could draw a map to flip as many as 10 seats
- Republican legislators expressed excitement about the “Big Beautiful Map” and thanked President Trump for his support of Speaker Burrows and the proposed redistricting map
President Trump has officially endorsed House Bill 4, the Texas House redistricting plan. Dubbed the “Big Beautiful Map,” the proposal could see Republicans flip five Texas Congressional seats next year.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump encouraged Texas lawmakers to pass the proposed redistricting map “as is” and praised Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows. The Texas House is scheduled to consider the map on Wednesday, August 20.
“CONGRATULATIONS TEXAS! The July Border Statistics are in and, once again, they are the LOWEST RECORDED NUMBERS IN UNITED STATES HISTORY. The U.S. Border Patrol reported ZERO releases of Illegal Aliens into the Country. Texas’ Border is Safe and Secure, and the entire World knows it. All we need to do is keep it this way, which is exactly why Texas Republicans need to help us WIN the 2026 Midterm Elections, and pass their new Bill, AS IS, for the ONE BIG, BEAUTIFUL CONGRESSIONAL MAP! With the Texas House now in Quorum, thanks to GREAT Speaker Dustin Burrows, I call on all of my Republican friends in the Legislature to work as fast as they can to get THIS MAP to Governor Greg Abbott’s desk, ASAP. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”, wrote President Trump.
Trump’s Truth Social post also serves as a rebuke to some purportedly conservative legislators and organizations that sought to undermine the work of President Trump and his allies to secure a new Texas Congressional map that maximized the chances of Republican victories.
The True Texas Project, an organization whose leaders have previously referred to President Trump as “King Grifter” and being insufficiently supportive of “white voters”, has encouraged lawmakers to draw a map “to go for 10 districts redrawn instead of 5.”
“If we can have 5, why not more?” wrote True Texas Project Fran Rhodes in an e-mail blast.
State Representative Brian Harrison has also been critical of the Trump-backed redistricting map.
“All the Texas government has are excuses. The new maps only add five new seats. Pathetic.”, said Harrison in an August 18 tweet.
While Harrison has been critical of the Trump-backed redistricting map and Texas House leadership’s handling of the redistricting process, he has not offered any redistricting proposals of his own.
Republican legislators expressed thanks to President Trump for his support of Speaker Burrows and the proposed redistricting map.
“A much-deserved big shoutout to Speaker @Burrows4TX by President @realDonaldTrumpon Truth Social for his leadership in keeping Texas on track. With quorum restored, we’re ready to deliver for Texans and pass one big, beautiful congressional map that reflects America First values!”, wrote State Representative Cole Hefner on X.
State Representative Jared Patterson posted, “Republicans are more united than ever under the leadership of Speaker @Burrows4TX. Thank you, Mr. President for your unwavering support of House Republicans and our great state!”
