Paxton Unveils “Protecting the Texas Promise” Affordability Agenda

U.S Senate Candidate Announces Statewide Tour to Promote Affordability Initiatives

Texas Attorney General and Republican U.S. Senate nominee Ken Paxton has announced a statewide tour to promote his “Protecting the Texas Promise Agenda” – a set of policy proposals aimed at making the cost of living more affordable for Texans.

Paxton’s statewide tour will include stops in Allen on August 4, Houston on August 5, McAllen on August 6, and San Antonio on August 8.

“As Attorney General, I’ve fought for Texas. Washington is making it harder than ever to get ahead, and the American dream is slipping away as the cost of everything from housing to healthcare rises. I believe every Texan should be able to buy a home, raise a family, and live a healthy life without struggling to make ends meet. That’s why I’m unveiling my Protecting the Texas Promise agenda.

It establishes a landmark $25,000 tax deduction for all out-of-pocket medical expenses, including insurance premiums. It creates a historic $50,000 home down payment deduction to make it easier to buy a home. It institutes a $5,000 healthy living tax deduction to help Texans stay active, eat healthier, and invest in their well-being. It doubles the child tax credit and makes the Trump accounts permanent. I’m running because I believe the American dream is still worth fighting for. I hope you all will join me as I travel across our state to share my plan to make that dream a reality,” said Paxton in a social media video touting his “Protecting the Texas Promise Agenda.”

The issue of affordability is shaping up to be one of the focal points in the race between Paxton and his Democratic opponent, Austin State Representative James Talarico.

Earlier this month, The Daily Signal highlighted several instances where Talarico’s voting record in the Texas House diverged from his pro-affordability rhetoric on the campaign trail. A spokesperson for Paxton’s campaign told The Daily Signal, “Texans won’t be so easily convinced that he stands with them when he has opposed every tax-cutting measure that would have put money back in their pockets,” adding, “The only reason he claims to care now is because he is a wolf in sheep’s clothing who will do and say anything to get elected.”

Recent polling shows a competitive race between Paxton and Talarico.

Fox News poll released yesterday showed Talarico with a 51%-48% lead over Paxton among registered voters, with that margin expanding to 53%-47% among extremely interested voters and extremely motivated voters.
