Dark Money Fueling Democrat Efforts in Texas

Democrat Taylor Rehmet Received Nearly Two-Thirds of Funding from Texas Majority PAC in SD 9 Runoff

  • Millions of dollars raised by the Texas Majority PAC to help elect Democrats in Texas have flowed through a web of entities and cannot be traced back to individual donors
  • The Texas Majority PAC has partnered with the Texas Democratic Party to build political infrastructure throughout Texas
  • Democrat Taylor Rehmet, running in the special runoff election for Senate District 9, received nearly two-thirds of his funding during the most recent reporting period from the Texas Majority PAC

As Democrats have their sights set once again on electoral victories in Texas, a dark-money enterprise has emerged to bankroll some of those political efforts.

The Texas Majority PAC has established itself as a key player in Texas politics in recent years, raising and spending millions of dollars to build political infrastructure to elect Democrats to public office at all levels of government. Last year, the Texas Majority PAC announced that it was partnering with the Texas Democratic Party on the “Blue Texas” program to turn out Democrat voters in the 2026 election.

Recent campaign reports reveal that the Texas Majority PAC is part of a web of left-wing entities, with much of the funding untraceable to individual donors.

Since July, 2025, the Texas Majority PAC has received $3.25 million from AB PAC – a federal SuperPAC based in Washington, DC. The donations from AB PAC represent more than 79% of the funds raised by the Texas Majority PAC during this timeframe. The second biggest donor to the Texas Majority PAC during this period is the Geosor Corporation, which donated $500,000 on September 26, 2025.

The Geosor Corporation is owned by leftist megadonor George Soros, who has personally contributed $7.45 million to the Texas Majority PAC between October, 2023 and April, 2025.

According to Federal Election Commission Records, much of AB PAC’s funding comes from the AB Foundation – a nonprofit corporation that is not required to disclose its donors.

This liberal dark money network has played a significant role in the January 31 runoff election in State Senate District 9 between Republican Leigh Wambsganss and Democrat Taylor Rehmet.

On his runoff campaign finance report filed with the Texas Ethics Commission on January 23, Rehmet reported receiving $143,383 in the form of in-kind contributions from the Texas Majority PAC. These contributions from the Texas Majority PAC accounted for nearly two-thirds of the contributions Rehmet received during the runoff reporting period.

The Texas Majority PAC has found itself at the center of allegations that it violated Texas campaign finance disclosure laws in connection with the Senate District 9 special election. As previously reported by The Texas Voicethe Texas Ethics Commission opened an inquiry into potential violations of the Texas Election Code by the Texas Majority PAC’s treasurer for failing to file campaign finance disclosure reports in connection with the November 4, 2025, Senate District 9 special election.

Those pre-election campaign finance reports, which were initially due on October 6, 2025 and October 27, 2025, were eventually filed on January 16, 2026. The matter remains pending before the Texas Ethics Commission.
